P & C Artworks is one of the few custom tile studios, which offers underglaze painting on bisque tile.
This traditional Old World technique is seldom
used today due to its time consuming nature. It requires years of experience to anticipate the fired outcome of stains and underglazes applied on bisque tile and sealed under a protective coat of transparent glaze.

Several different commercial bisques are available for painting with underglazes or stains. Handmade bisque is available for when an Old World or rustic
look is desired.

We frequently paint our artwork on commercially glazed tile as well. Porcelain tile is recommended
if you select to use commercial tile for your artwork.
Porcelain will stand up to wear and tear better than most any other surface, resisting stains, chipping and household cleaners. It is also moisture
resistant, making it a great choice for kitchen, bath, floors, pools and fountains.

Custom tiles that require small writing or detailed logos are most often created with a combination of silk-screened stains and hand painted underglazes.
We can design custom ceramic decals to be fired on tile for those projects where a large numbers of intricate repeat designs are needed.

P & C Artworks does not use overglaze (china paint) to paint our murals. Overglaze (china paint) fires at a lower temperature than glaze and underglaze, it also tends to be less resistant to wear.

We do not use Dye Sublimation. Dye Sublimation is a computer generated printed image transfer. Ceramic glaze, underglaze, overglaze (china paint) and ceramic decal colors, unlike sublimation printing are permanent and will not fade or scratch easily. Please do not confuse dye sublimation with any of the above ceramic techniques. This is not a ceramic process. Coatings on tiles and other sublimated materials can be scratched by contact with rough objects such as the unglazed clay on the bottom of a coffee cup. Even sanded grouts can scratch sublimated tiles.

Most of P & C Artworks custom tile is fired at 1850º in one of our many kilns for several hours. Permanence and durability is what sets glaze and
underglaze apart from other decorative tile techniques. This is why P&C Artworks paints
its murals in undergaze and glazes. We want to make sure that you’re tile art will give you many years of pleasure. This is art that is functional as well as beautiful.

WARNING:
Color variation is an inherent characteristic of all hand painted ceramic tile. Even commercial tiles vary slightly in shade and size from tile to tile and lot to lot. We recommend ordering all tiles for a project at the same time. Non decorative field tile should be blended by mixing tiles from several different boxes during tile installation.
